Nara Park (Nara Koen)
From the
Yoshikien Garden, walking only about 8 minutes we entered the large Nara Park,
which is situated in central Nara and covers much of the east side of the city.
Alternatively, the park can be reach direct from Nara Station by bus.

The park was established in 1880 and is the location of many of Nara’s main attractions…including being home to around 1200 little dear! The dear in pre-Buddhist times were considered messengers from the gods and today are a symbol of Nara city and are a designated national treasure. The dear are everywhere and surprisingly tame! While walking along, the dear even came up to us and bowed their heads…to ask for food!
